Synopsis:

The About Here films are humorous and accessible, with stories and characters that people can engage with. Each is designed to be downloaded on location, providing information and history through storytelling. The first, About Culross Abbey, was selected as "Best Animation" at the Mobifest Toronto 08 film festival.

Extended Description:

At many tourist sites the only information is a small plaque. Visitors' sole communication device is their mobile. They want to know, right now, what is important. If it's interesting, they also want to share it with their friends. About Here films provide information and entertainment on location, and give an opportunity to talk directly to visitors.

The two pilot episodes of About Here demonstrate the power of storytelling and show how that power can be harnessed to communicate the excitement and interest of Scotland's heritage and natural history.

They also show how well short films designed for the mobile phone platform can work. At only fifty seconds long each film provides a concentrated burst of information.  An English-speaking narrator has been used in the pilot, but additional voiceovers in a range of languages could be recorded.

Designed for unstaffed sites, About Here provides a point of visitor contact that would otherwise be missing. They fulfil education and awareness requirements in an innovative way. They use only the existing mobile network and current phone handsets. They allow visitors to share their enthusiasm with their friends.

"Keep the history cartoons coming, the kids love them!" - B. Donnelly, FirstGroup bus passenger.
